5 Books to Read with Awesome Mother Figures

Happy (belated) Mother's Day all!

This is the time of year where we shower our wonderful mothers with love, (and rightfully so--they're awesome!) so I thought I would show a little love to the fictional mother figures who keep our beloved heroes safe, and do their laundry so our heroes can save the day in clean clothes.

This was honestly harder than it should have been. I think it has something to do with the fact that most of my favorite characters either have no parents, or the worst ones on the face of the planet. Why must authors torture our babies?? (I say as I write a tragic plot for my own characters. 😂)

1. Keeper of the Lost Cities

You really thought I would write a list about books you should read, and not put Keeper of the Lost Cities on it? Ha. But, I had to put it on here because Edaline Ruewen is literally the best mother on Earth. I love her so much! And Juline and Della and literally every other mother in the series (except for Keefe's and Tam and Linh's, obviously). I love the journey that Sophie and Edaline go through--from being complete strangers to adoptive mother and daughter. I think it's an incredibly well developed relationship that I adore reading about.

2. Percy Jackson and The Olympians

It's been a little while since I've read any Percy Jackson books, but I remember enough to know that Sally Jackson is a fantastic mother. She always takes Percy's feelings into account, and does whatever she can to protect him, even when it's not easy. She even spends twelve years, completely miserable in a relationship with Gabe to protect her son.

3. The Book Thief

This one's not a popular opinion, and I know that. When we were reading The Book Thief in class, I know a number of my friends actually hated Rosa. But I quite liked her, to be honest. She's definitely more of a tough-love mother, but she would do anything to protect her family, and I admire her for that.

4. The Distance Between Us

The main character, Caymen, spends every spare moment of her time working at her mom's store, and would do almost everything for her. And honestly, so would]| I. Susan Meyers is a single, hardworking mother who doesn't depend on anyone, no matter how bad the circumstances. I love her independent spirit and her perseverance.

5. Little House on the Prairie

Caroline Ingles is Laura and Mary's mom from The Little House on the Prairie. She's one of my mom's favorite fictional mothers, because she's such a positive role model.

Anyway, I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day! How did you celebrate?

  1. AAHHHH YES TO (practically) ALL OF THESE!! Edaline is an awesome mother! (Side note - have you seen the Legacy cover? It’s GORGEOUS!!! <33) And Laura's and Percy's moms are just incredible.

Honestly, Rosa rubbed me the wrong way. I’m . . . not her biggest fan, but I agree about her loyalty and tough-love attitude.

Great post! And Happy Mother's Day (although I know you’re not a mom, but still)!

    1. Saw it yesterday and I totally agree--it's beautiful!! Also, how evil is Shannon putting the triangle on the cover?

Yeah, I know a lot of people aren't fans of hers.

      Thanks! You too. :)

  2. Great books for Mothers Day!

  3. I always forget how awesome Percy's Mom was.
